You Got Me Understanding

Willingness to grow.  The hallmark of wisdom shunned by youth and mourned by the old.  No matter what age a person may be, it is always the oldest they have ever been.  It is no wonder that people often view themselves as fully formed at the beginning of their endeavors.  Only when opportunities are diminished or well-nigh gone do people understand what should have been.  Time levels and lightens the field.

Imagine what it would have been like were we as Adam and Eve in the perfected state- ever growing and learning with no shadow of death.  There would be no regret or pain of loss day after eternal day.  Now, our years are numbered and full of grief.  Time flies by as we futilely attempt small gains.  Little progress and hard earned.  When we have learned how to live, we escape this mortal bond in sorrow and the gift of God.

Had I known then what I know now.  The proverb of the aged is a caution to treasure the moments and stay evergreen.  Time is short.  If we are to live as we should we must value living and learning.  We must not only seek to know but to understand.  I wish I had been more patient then and suffered with others in their difficulties even as I yearn for them to do with me in mine.  Today, I understand, but it took more years than I had to give.

Jesus showed us excellence and empathy.  He never relaxed the standard but always related to the struggling.  Scripture says He know us completely and loves us still.  He even placed Himself under the curse of humanity and sin to experience pain, suffering and death first-hand.  When I hurt, He is there.  In the night of failure, He keeps my soul.  It is my responsibility to show some of what He has shown me to others.

We live in the moment.  When the time of action is past, we may regret the deed but can never recall it.  It would pay us to be sensitive and silent.  I have learned that most people have a guilty conscience longing for freedom and forgiveness.  At the same time, most anguish remains so deeply personal as to be unexpressed.  What burdens to bear!  These things speak to the profound need for a Savior and solace of the saints.

God’s Word is always new and always true.  Much is written on loving relationships among believers.  Such relationships make the necessary admonitions and corrections of biblical living bearable.  Secularism offers an easy, flip lifestyle as a cheap imitation of real accountable Christianity.  Don’t worry about it.  Genuine understanding, love and support will beat that any day of the week.
