Go for It!
In Rocky III, Clubber Lang faced down Rocky in the ring saying, “Gonna bust you up.” Without emotion, Rocky replied, “Go for it.” The old Underdog cartoons panned at the critical moment, “Looks like this is the end!” Everyone has been there. The salient moment when it’s do or die. The point of decision when choice means pain and may be irrevocable. These meaningful and heartbreaking times in life cannot be avoided. I’ve been there, and I don’t envy you your choice.
The struggle of life means bravely attempting uncertain outcomes. There is verve in the effort, but also compelling fear. Sometimes, crippling, rather than, compelling. God always intended for people to strive and achieve, even in the perfection of Eden, but the ramifications of the fall have greatly increased the degree of danger and defeat. It’s not easy to be brave- even though we’ve heard that we should be all our lives. But brave we must be if we are to survive, let alone succeed. Emotion plays little or no role regarding action in such cases.
God has made us free. This fact carries both a positive and a negative. On the one hand, others cannot bind us with the chains of their preferences. On the other, we forge our own bonds. Being free means being able to chart a life-course, but it also means being forced to face enemies and difficulties without intervention. Sometimes, it means not knowing what to do and wondering if it really matters. God will guide but never force us- even though He knows better and it’s in our best interest.
I hope your difficulties are past, but I know otherwise. You will need to be brave and resolute many times over. Satan will stare you down and say, “Gonna bust you up.” And he can. In such times, I hope you will lean on the God who gave such freedom with its promises and pitfalls. You’ll take it on the chin like everyone before you. There’s no other way to do it. Understand that others have been where you are. When your back’s against the wall and it looks like the end, don’t back down. Go for it.
